Day 20 Villavante to Astorga

I left Villavante , the Santa Lucia albergue around 6.15 pm today on the way to Astorga a larger town in the Leon región, which is famous of its handmade chocolates.  The distance today is some 23 kms over a relative flat route.  The geography continues to be very beautiful and interesting to the eye.
Our walking groiup of 5 stopped for breakfast at a great café in a place named Hospital de Orbigo- for the usual café con leche and croissants.  The Spanish breakfast par excellence.  This small village is famous for having one of the oldest bridges in Europe which was built over an old roman bridge.  They still celebrate the heroism of a noble man from the 14C, which also happens to be named in the Don Quijote book.
We arrived at our chosen albergue in Astorga - named Siervas de Maria, just agter 1 pm.  Today we had another hot day.
Astorga has an impressive catedral for such a samll town.  Also has a great building designed and constructed by Gaudi, el |Palacio del Obispo.
Had lunch7dinner at a great restaurant in the plaza mayor / fpr the pricely sum of 10 euros.
Walked around the town and had another coffee around another plaza / where the locals celebrated their victory over the Napoleón army with a great statue of a Lion.
Tomorrow we visit Foncebadon  a really hard day with great climbing.
Bey for now..  Jose
